In designing a new building for a glazingbusiness, the widespread use of the building material glass seems anobvious response. But it is not the amount of this material used thatdetermines the project, but its specific use at a conceptual joint ina formulated architectural concept.
Architecture is an intervention in something thatalready exists, settling on and inserting into the earth, in thiscase with the use of the material concrete.
Architecture is encasing a space, here using trapezoid steel sheeting.
What is in-between, the mediator between these twofigures, is the glass.
Openings are not cut out but left open. Where thetwo fundamental figures do not touch the space opens. To define theclimatic area, it is glazed like with a membrane.
This concept is also consistently formulated inthe interior articulation of the building so that the purity of theconcrete plinth and the metal envelope can be retained. Full-heightglass partition walls break up the volume of the space intoindividual work areas, without preventing the space from beinggrasped as a whole.
The concrete plinth houses the building services, the sanitary and common rooms and also forms a gallery-like zone forthe office area and for smaller handcraft activities. The metal shelladds to the overall volume an access and exhibition area, as well asthe storage and processing hall.
